Bears superstar interior linebacker Roquan Smith has officially requested a trade from the Chicago Bears. Roquan officially announced his trade request over Twitter with a couple pictures screenshotted from his notes app on his iphone, with some quotes saying “unfortunately the new front office regime doesn’t value me here”, “every step of this journey has been take it or leave it”, “I haven’t had a chance to sit down with the McCaskey family, and they maybe can salvage this, but as of right now I don’t see a path back to the organization that I truly love” which doesn’t look good for the Bears new GM Ryan Poles and the fact that Bears fans already are upset at the fact that the roster has since been depleted in these last two years with key players being traded or released.
Roquan is the best player on the Bears and will be for at least the next two seasons, Smith is also the anchor of the Bears defense. Roquan has been nothing short of sensational since he arrived in Chicago in 2018 after being selected 8th overall in that draft. Roquan has been considered a top five to top eight middle linebacker in this league for a bit now and should get the money he’s ultimately looking for.
Roquan’s stats have been top of the league with having 95 tackles, 3 sacks, 1 interception, a returned touchdown, 163 combined tackles, a second team all pro and a pro bowl last season just alone.
The Bears should be doing everything to pay Roquan what he wants and with no hesitancy at all since they should have plenty of cap room with little to no star power on this roster and also a quarterback in Justin Fields on a rookie contract.
