With one of the more premier matchups on Monday night football we have the Denver Broncos facing the Los Angeles chargers in Sofi stadium and what a game this was. The Broncos started out the game, taking a 10-0 lead in the first quarter and vintage Russell Wilson really emerged as he scrambled out of the pocket and made to big plays back to back, with Wilson coming off shoulder surgery earlier this week the Broncos were definitely projected to throw more RPO’s and bubble screens to keep Russell’s throwing shoulder under less pain and preserve him for the year more.
With this Chargers team, being one of the most injury rattled teams, they finally got some other stars back with JC Jackson, but are still missing many key pieces on both sides of the ball like star edge rusher Joey Bosa, Corey Lindsley, Rashawn Slater who is out for the year, Keenan Allen who’s been banged up all year and many other key players, but at the end of the day this chargers team has really been underwhelming these last two years under head coach Brian Staley.
With all that being said the second half really turned out to be a close one with the Chargers rallying back to tie the ball game up and take the game into overtime where they kicked a field goal to win the game. With both teams really relying on their quarterbacks to produce offense in this game you have to wonder what changes will be made throughout the year to not rely on them as much, as we’ve seen with other teams who rely on their QB’s more those teams tend to struggle once the QB has a bad week or stretch of weeks.
Wilson and the Broncos are off to a very rocky start in their first year as partners in the AFC and with Russell injuring his hamstring last night in the fourth quarter and Denver losing key pieces throughout the year like left tackle Garrett Bowles, running back Javonte Williams, receiver Tim Patrick and others, it’s shaping up like Denver is going to miss the playoffs completely this year. The Broncos fall to 2-4 on the season as the Los Angeles Chargers advance to 4-2.
