As we are in the midst of week 16 of the NFL season we had a huge slate of games on Christmas eve, and many great games that came down to the wire and some blowouts. Let’s go through my top three takeaways from the Christmas eve slate of games.
NFC wildcard still wide open
With essentially all the NFC wildcard teams all losing in Saturday’s slate of games, the race for the last two playoff spots in the NFC are going to come down to the wire as no team has pulled forward with a win in Saturday’s games. The Giants losing by a 61 yard field goal, the Lions getting blown out by the Panthers, the Commanders losing to the 49ers and Seattle also getting blown out by Kansas City, this playoff race will likely come down to week 18 and who can seemingly squeak out a win.
Race for the 1 seed in the AFC still alive
With the Bills, Chiefs and Bengals all winning on Saturday this number one seed for the AFC playoffs is seemingly going to be a great watch as week count down these last few weeks in the regular season. Next week is going to be huge as the Buffalo Bills take on the Cincinnati Bengals in week 17 which will essentially shake up the AFC playoff chart and who will want to be what seed in the coming weeks.
Cowboys top Eagles in wild shootout
The Dallas Cowboys finally got their revenge as they beat the Philadelphia Eagles in a wild shootout. This game has been all the media and fans talked about over the last month, with the Cowboys beating Phili 40-34 they have locked up a playoff spot and have advanced in the playoff seeding. With Jalen Hurts missing this game it dropped his MVP case by a lot and essentially took him out of the MVP race, but with Hurts dealing with a shoulder injury sustained in last week’s game against the Bears, the Eagles are playing it safe, making sure Jalen is 100 percent for the playoffs. Credit to the Cowboys as quarterback Dak Prescott played a great game, throwing three touchdowns to just one interception.
