Capping off the wildcard weekend of the NFL season we have the Tampa Bay buccaneers and the Dallas Cowboys fighting for the last divisional round playoff spot in which the winner of this game will travel to San Francisco and take on the 49ers. With this game being one of the bigger talking points of the week, this is most likely going to come down to one play at the end of the game and decide who will advance. Let’s go through each half of football and give my overall thoughts on the game.
In the first half the Cowboys took a very early 18-0 lead over the Buccaneers and we’re playing great on both sides of the ball. With Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott having the game of his life, he was making up for his poor play in week 18 against Washington. With the Buccaneers trailing the entire first half they couldn’t run the ball whatsoever and forced Tom Brady to drop back over 80% of the time. With a monster offensive game and half by the Cowboys, the Buccaneers really struggled to get anything going in the first half, scoring zero points.
In the second half it was all about the Cowboys as they kept their lead, and ran the ball somewhat affectively against a very good Tampa Bay run defense, with Cowboys running back Tony Pollard having over 5 yards of Carry he kept the ball out of Tom Brady’s hands and made this a very quick game. With Tom Brady having to throw 66 times in a playoff game there was no chance for the Buccaneers to win this game and spark a comeback in which the Buccaneers have been one of the best teams in the league from coming behind this year.
Overall, my prediction was that the Buccaneers would win, but with the Cowboys jumping out to such an early lead, Tampa Bay couldn’t keep up on offense, forcing Brady to throw too many times and ending their season early. The Dallas Cowboys will now travel to San Francisco and face the 49ers in the NFC divisional round.
