Possibly the biggest story of the offseason is former MVP quarterback Lamar Jackson who has not yet received a contract from any teams around the NFL. Jackson and the Ravens have been in contact talks for over the last eighteen months and have gotten nothing down thus far.
The Baltimore Ravens put the non-exclusive franchise tag on Lamar, it basically says to the rest of the NFL teams that they can sign Jackson to a contract but have to give up two first round picks and the Ravens also can match the deal which would bring Lamar back to Baltimore. Many NFL players have come out to defend Lamar and give their support as to why Jackson is not getting any traction on the open market.
Many fans and media members are speculating that the NFL and team owners are trying to make a statement that they don’t give out fully guaranteed contracts and especially like the one the Cleveland Browns gave to quarterback Deshaun Watson last year.
If this is true then Lamar could be in for a rude awakening if none of the league tries to go for Lamar and that is very possible as most to all of the previously interested teams like the Carolina Panthers, Las Vegas Raiders, Atlanta Falcons, Indianapolis Colts and Washington Commanders have all reportedly lost interest in persuising Lamar this offseason which leads back to if Jackson will have to sign the franchise tag the Ravens gave him on Tuesday.
