NFL breakout players next season

With the NFL season coming sooner than later let’s look at some players who can have a breakout season. Now this list will feature players who are considered to be overlooked and are young players due to have a monster season, the qualifications for this list is they must be still on their rookie contracts or under the age of 26 and have never made a pro bowl. This list will be in no order either.

  • Zach Wilson

Looking at the weapons that the New York Jets have on offense now this year is the year for Zach Wilson to prove why he was the #2 pick in last year’s draft. This year the Jets drafted mostly considered the best receiver in the draft in Garrett Wilson.

  • Jermey Chinn

Jermey Chinn is due to have a huge breakout year, Chinn has flown under the radar these last 2 seasons but he’s played well for the Panthers at the safety position. Chinn was a late round pick in the 2020 draft and is looking to have that breakout year many Panthers fans are hoping he has.

  • Tony Pollard

Dallas Cowboys running back Tony Pollard is looking to have a huge year due to Cowboys coach Mike Mccarthy saying Pollard will be used more as a receiver and multi tool player not just the running back he is. Pollard is also in the last year of his deal and will look to make this contract year a big one.

  • Ajeez Ojulari

Ojulari has the potential to be one of the league’s best linebackers for the New York Giants, with new coaches all around the organization this team is looking to get back to their winning days and the Giants have the pieces of defense to disrupt many teams.

  • Myles Jack

Myles Jack is on a new team and I think it will do him wonders for his career being on the Steelers, they are a defense first organization and Jack will have plenty of opportunities to be a key piece for the Steelers to make a playoff run this season. Jack was once considered a big piece on the Jaguars a few years ago and will look to get back to that on his new team.

Lillard, Portland agrees to a contract extension

With Damian Lillard missing most of last year’s season due to a core injury, Lillard and the Trailblazers front office have been working together to make sure Lillard has the right pieces around him to build a contender and compete for a championship. The Trailblazers superstar is now signed through the 2026-2027 season and now is the one of the top 3 highest paid players in the league over the next half decade. Lillard’s new extension is 2 years worth $120 million dollars and now his overall contract is roughly worth 5 years $270 million and is right in line with the top players.

The Trailblazers looked to be rebuilding last season after the team traded star shooting guard C.J Mccollum, especially with the little Portland got back for C.J. Portland is looking to retool the team around Lillard and one player who has shined last season was point guard Anfernee Simons. Portland has always been considered to be a good not great team with Lillard and Mccullum but is looking to make that next step in the next couple seasons before Lillard starts to fade.

Kevin Durant fake trade scenarios

With the Brooklyn Nets, Kevin Durant situation now going away its set that Brooklyn is wanting a massive haul for KD, especially since the picks and players Utah got for center Rudy Gobert but the Nets have reached to a halt as its been said around the league Brooklyn is wanting way too much for KD, it was reported the Nets wanted Karl Anthony-Towns, Anthony Edwards and four first round picks for KD. So I’ll be doing realistic trades that could go through and work financially.

  • Boston Celtics

Celtics Receive: Kevin Durant, Seth Curry

Brooklyn Receive: Jaylen Brown, Grant Williams, Derrick White, 4 first round picks, 2 second round picks

  • Toronto Raptors

Raptors Receive: Kevin Durant, Joe Harris

Brooklyn Receive: Pascal Siakam, Gary Trent Jr., Scottie Barnes, 4 first round picks, 2 second round picks

  • New Orleans Pelicans

Pelicans Receive: Kevin Durant, Joe Harris

Brooklyn Receive: Brandon Ingram, Devonte Graham, Jaxson Hayes, Kira Lewis Jr., 4 first round picks

Baker Mayfield traded to the Panthers

Former Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfiled finally gets his wish of being traded. Mayfield will head to the Carolina Panthers for a conditional fifth round pick which could turn into a fourth round pick.

Carolina now has an overfilled quarterback room with Baker Mayfield, Sam Darnold, Matt Corral and P.J walker. It’s likely that there will be a quarterback battle between the former number 1 and 3 picks in the 2018 draft, Darnold did play well last year for the Panthers until getting hurt in the middle of the season. Baker is likely to start sometime this season but getting traded to the team late into the offseason is going to be a challenge for Baker to learn the playbook in the short time before training camp starts in less than 3 weeks from now.

The Browns had a hard time jumping through multiple hoops of trading Mayfield like draft compensation, what team wants Baker and the hardest one was who is going to pay Mayfield his fully guaranteed $18.838 million dollar salary but the most interested team was the Carolina Panthers who paid $10.5 million of the $18 million, the Panthers are paying him $5 million and Baker is taking a $3.5 million dollar pay cut.

This is likely going to be Baker’s last chance at a starting role in the NFL, with most media members and NFL personnel around the league consider Cleveland to be one of the top rosters in the league and Baker still couldn’t make it work. Baker Is going to truly sow if he’s a top quarterback in this league, with Carolina being considered the 32nd team graded by PPF’s power rankings.
