NFL Training Camp Injuries

Every season for the NFL we have training camps and there’s always a team that just has horrible injury luck, so let’s look at the teams thus far that have had key injuries that might affect their season.

Denver Broncos- Tim Patrick and Damarea Crockett will miss the season with ACL injuries.

Dallas Cowboys- James Washington will miss 6-10 weeks with a foot injury, Micheal Gallup will miss the start of the season with his ACL injury from last season.

Minnesota Vikings- Irv Smith will undergo thumb surgery, not completely ruled out for season opener. Dalvin Cook, Alexander Mattison both having hand injuries, both should be fine.

Los Angeles Rams- Van Jefferson to undergo minor knee surgery will miss a couple of weeks.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers- Ryan Jensen will likely miss season with knee injury, Tristan Wirfs carted off field with injury.

Buffalo Bills- Jordan Poyer hyperextended elbow, to miss a few weeks.

Cleveland Browns- Amari Cooper exited practice after suffering an ankle injury

Atlanta Falcons- Vincent Taylor will miss the entire season after rupturing achilles.

Kansas City Chiefs- Skyy Moore injured his hip.

New Orleans Saints- Smoke Monday suffered a significant knee injury.

New York Jets- Michael Carter injured his ankle.

Pittsburgh Steelers- Minkah Fitzpatrick injured his wrist, Chase Claypool injured his shoulder, both should be fine for week 1.

Deshuan Watson suspension

After a long anticipated wait Cleveland Browns new quarterback Deshaun Watson has finally received his long awaited suspension but there’s a catch. NFL’s associate judge Sue L. Robinson gave Deshaun Watson a six game suspension

Once the suspension was made public rather quickly, once the news broke to the public all hell broke loose on social media with many fans and media members quite outraged on how little the suspension was. Most fans that were talking about it were comparing Watson’s suspension to Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Calvin Ridley’s one full season suspension for gambling on a Falcons game while not on the active roster saying “it’s egregious” or “utter nonsense” that Ridley’s suspension was three times as long as Watson’s suspension

Now Watson hasnt been found guilty to any of his twent four sexual misconduct allegations. That’s why the suspension is only six games but thankfully for Deshuan he was able to settle twenty of the twenty four allegations against him.

With every NFL personality talking about the Deshaun Watson suspension many of those same members suspect Watson’s suspension to be longer once the NFL players association and NFL commissioner Roger Goddell step in. The NFLPA has three days to decide on what Watson’s future will look like and many suspect it to be at least eight games to a full season long.

Deebo Samuel contract extension

San Francisco finally gets their guy back in Deebo Samuel, the superstar wideout is getting a massive payday, a 3 year $73.5 million dollar contract with $58.1 million guaranteed. It was very likely that once Seattle Seahawks wide receiver D.K Metcalf got his contract that laid out the groundwork for the 49ers and Deebo to work off of the fresh contract D.K got from Seattle.

The 49ers had to get this deal done with Deebo as he’s arguably their most valuable piece on offense and maybe the whole team. With deebo being such a phenomenal player the 49ers couldn’t give him up or even let him sit out for the season, Samuel did request a trade in the beginning of the offseason and it was looking like San Francisco was going to trade him and the niners did take calls on the superstar player but the 49ers didn’t get what they were looking for in draft compensation.

Throughout the offseason Deebo did make it known he didn’t want to play for the niners but that was just getting leverage for Deebo to make the team cave to pay him what he wanted, Deebo will now be a free agent when he’s 30 and can potentially get another massive deal.

Deebo’s contract was just a sign of what he did on the field in 2021 with him having a massive breakout year with a pro bowl selection, the fist wide receiver to have over 6 rushing and receiving touchdowns in one season, Deebo was also top 3 in the league for most total yards from scrimmage with over 1,800. The only knock on Deebo is he’s missed just under 33% of games in his short three year career.

Lamar Jackson situation solved

I believe that I can solve the Lamar Jackson issue with the Baltimore Ravens about the whole contract extension situation that’s been and currently brewing. Jackson was drafted in 2018 in the same draft class with QB’s Josh Allen, Josh Rosen, Daniel Jones and former quarterback Dwayne Haskins {R.I.P}, besides Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson this quarterback draft class has had lots of misses particularly in the upper first round of the draft.

With the only other QB that’s been deserving of a second contract with their respected team {Josh Allen} Allen signed a massive 5 year $258 million dollar contract with 2 years left on his rookie deal so you’re probably wondering why hasn’t Lamar Jackson received a contract extension from his organization, well at first when Lamar has his MVP season back in 2020 the Ravens wanted to sit down and negotiate a contract extension with the QB but Lamar was just focused on playing football but fast forwarding two years to now it looks like Lamar is looking for an extension and has made it very clear he wants his money as he’s posted a header on his Twitter profile insinuating “pay me”.

It doesn’t help that Lamar Jackson’s agent is his mother, which always makes it harder to negotiate a contract with a player or relative to the player as their agent. Many believe Lamar will get an extension done within the season or maybe before the season starts but nothing is guaranteed, the Ravens coud franchise tag Jackson but in many cases players don’t like being franchise tagged especially when they haven’t received that second contract yet like Dak Prescott or Kirk Cousins years ago.

I believe Lamar will get an extension between what Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray just received {5 years $230 million with $105 fully guaranteed} and Cleveland Browns QB Deshuan Watson got {5 years $230 million all fully guaranteed}. We don’t know when or if a contract will get done by the end of the season but it’s believed that the contract will get done in the matter of no time.

NFL training camp news

With the NFL training camps already started there’s already been lots of news to cover within the first few days, with multiple players getting injured, players retiring, players holding out and players getting paid. Let’s look at some of the news that’s broken within the last two to three days.

Starting off with injuries which is the biggest set of news we have Seattle Seahawks safety Jamal Adams broken his finger yesterday {7/29} but will miss likely no games, arguably the worst injury is Tampa Bay Buccaneers center Ryan Jensen suffered a terrible knee injury which most believe he’ll miss the season with, Pittsburgh Steelers safety Minkah Fitzpatrick injured his wrist riding a bike, Buffalo Bills safety Micah Hyde was carted off the field with a hip injury but likely nothing too serious.

Next up retirements, there’s been a few but nothing that will drastically change a teams season. Washington Commanders had two players retire which both were sorta shocking, linebacker Ryan Kerrigan retired after 11 seasons and tight end Antonio Gandy-Golden is retiring after 2 seasons and going back to college and for the Denver Broncos defensive lineman Derek Wolfe is retiring after 10 seasons and also winning a Super Bowl 50 with Denver.

Lastly signings the Kansas City Chiefs are signing former Seahawks defensive Lineman Carlos Dunalp to a 1 year $8 million dollar contract.

D.K Metcalf inks massive extension

Seattle Seahawks superstar wide receiver D.K has reached an agreement on a contract extension, the contract is a 3 year $72 million dollar extension with $58.2 million fully guaranteed, with a $30 million dollar signing bonus.

D.K put himself in a nice position with this new contract, Metcalf receives $30 million for a signing bonus which is the highest ever for a wideout, Metcalf will be receiving on average $24 million per season which is the sixth highest amongst wideouts in the NFL. D.K will hit free agency again when he’s 27 years old so he’ll be able to rack in another monster contract and D.K can imirage as the leader of the team since he’s definitely considered the best player on his team and will be for the next couple years at least

Metcalf has said throughout the offseason he would hold out until a new contract was agreed upon and he stuck to his word. D.K attended training camps on wednesday but did not practice but with Seahawks leaders gone like star QB Russell Wilson and Bobby Wagner the Seahawks were in a desperate place to give D.K whatever he wanted for a new extension.

D.K has put up insane numbers in his first few seasons in the NFL with one of a few wide receivers to have double digit touchdowns and has made the pro bowl in these last two seasons. Metcalf has also had 3,170 total yards and 29 TD’s in the last two seasons as well.

Pay, trade or sit out

With the NFL training camps now starting, we are starting to see multiple {6} star players holding out, looking for new contracts. Let’s discuss if we’d pay the player, trade them or let them sit out.

  • Chicago bears MLB Roquan Smith-Pay

With your QB on a rookie contract the Bears should pay Roquan Smith, with Smith being such a young player {25} and already having made multiple pro bowls and all team defenses it’s a no brainer.

  • Cincinnati Bengals Safety Jessie Bates-Trade

Jessie Bates is coming off of his best year in the NFL, with safeties being a hard position to pay it in the best interest for the Bengals to trade Bates while his trade value is at a high and it will clear the cap for the team to pay superstars on the team in the upcoming seasons.

  • Los Angeles Chargers Safety Derwin James-Sit Out

Like Bengals safety Jessie Bates the Chargers should look to do the same thing, either sit out or trade James, James is a phenomenal player but has been a little injury prone in his short career thus far.

  • Seattle Seahawks WR D.K Metcalf-Sit Out

Seahawks stud receiver D.K Metcalf is looking for a hefty new contract and while I believe D.K deserves it I think he should want to get paid from another team considering Seattle is in a full rebuild.

  • San Francisco 49ers WR Deebo Samuel-Trade

The 49ers should obviously look to trade superstar wideout Deebo Samuel, Deebo has said he wants to get paid and is also looking to go back to the traditional wide receiver position not this hybrid WR/RB position the 49ers have Samuel playing, plus the 49ers can get a haul as Deebo is coming off his best year by far.

  • Kansas City Chiefs OT Orlando Brown Jr.-Pay

Even though I’d be skeptical to pay offensive tackle Orlando Brown Jr. I’d definitely still pay him the money he is looking to get, Brown has been a huge piece for the Chiefs O-Line in his venture on the team, plus Kansas City did trade a first round pick for Brown in 2020. It’s been reported that the Chiefs did offer Brown a contract over 5 years and worth $18.2 million on average per season but Brown is looking for more security in the contract.

NFL news around the league

Yesterday was a huge day for the National Football League with multiple stories breaking and new players signing with new teams. Let’s check out some of the biggest stories from yesterday.

  • Chris Carson retires

Seattle Seahawks starting running back Chris Carson is retiring after five seasons with the club, Carson was 27 years old and the reason he retired was he injured his neck in week 4 of last season and just couldn’t stay healthy in his career.

  • Julio Jones signing with the Bucs

Julio Jones is signing a one year deal with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Julio coming off a down year in Tennessee is looking to bounce back in an already stacked wide receiver room. The Terms around money hasn’t been leaked as of yet but it’s assumed it’s on a minimum contract.

  • Kyler Murray weird contract clause

A few days after the Arizona Cardinals signed QB Kyler Murray to a 5 year $230.5 million dollar contract it was leaked yesterday {7/26} that Murray must study at least 4 hours in between weeks during the season with no interruptions like video games, TV or any other distractions.

  • Trey Lance named starting QB

As anticipated the San Francisco 49ers are finally naming 2nd year Quarterback Trey Lance as the starting QB next season, Lance was selected 3rd overall in the 2021 draft after the 49ers traded three first round picks to get Lance for the future starting job in San Francisco, this comes a few days after the 49ers front office told now former starting QB Jimmy Garrapolo that he can find a trade suitor.

Kevin Durant realistic trade packages

With Kevin Durant and the Brooklyn Nets still at a standoff, the Nets are still looking to move KD, but with the lack of trade offers from teams the Nets are still looking for possible trade suitors to best fit Durant and what Brooklyn wants in return for the superstar player. It was reported yesterday {monday} morning that the Boston Celtics are interested in Durant and the two teams did exchange offers but couldn’t come to an agreement. I’ve made three realistic trade packages for KD that Brooklyn would be possibly open too.

  • Boston Celtics

            Boston Receives:Kevin Durant.

Brooklyn Receives:Jaylen Brown, Derrick White, 2 first round picks, 2 first round pick swaps and 2 second rounders.

  • Toronto Raptors

Toronto Receives:Kevin Durant and Edmond Sumner.

Brooklyn Receives: Scottie Barnes, Fred VanVleet, OG Anunoby, 2023 first and second round picks.

  • New Orleans Pelicans

Pelicans Receives:Kevin Durant and Seth Curry.

Brooklyn Receives:Brandon Ingram, Devonte’ Graham, Jaxson Hayes, Trey Murphy lll and a 2023 first round pick.
