Lamar Jackson potentially traded to Washington

The 2019 NFL Most Valuable Player could be on the move in Lamar Jackson. Lamar and the Ravens have gone back and forth on contract talks for a while now and over the last few months it’s been speculated that Jackson and the Ravens are more likely to be heading towards a divorce rather than a deal getting done.

NFL reporter Adam Schefter said Friday afternoon that Lamar to the Washington Commanders is likely to get done “very soon” and the compensation is likely to be agreed to Friday evening. With Lamar wanting a fully guaranteed contract, Baltimore has been very reluctant to give Jackson even close to what he’s asking as Lamar has gotten injured late in each of the last two seasons and can’t seem to play a full season healthy.

With the Cleveland Browns giving quarterback Deshuan Watson a five year $230 million dollar contract fully guaranteed, that’s what Lamar has said he’s wanted and isn’t backing down to his demands even if it means getting shipped out of Baltimore. Since Watson has received that deal many NFL owners have stated that what the Browns did was an outlier and isn’t where the quarterback market is heading.

Rashod Bateman calling out Ravens front office

Tempers are starting to flare in Baltimore as third year wide receiver Rashod Bateman has called out the Ravens front office and specifically Ravens general manager Eric DeCosta about his comments at this year’s NFL combine.

Bateman stated on Twitter “how bout you play to your player’s strength and & stop pointing the finger at us and #8,” Bateman wrote, while also referencing quarterback Lamar Jackson, “blame the one you let do this…. we take heat 24/7. & keep us healthy … care about US & see what happen..ain’t no promises tho … tired of y’all lyin and cap’n on players for no reason.” Bateman then did delete the tweet and then tweeted “My apologies”

With the Ravens having one of the strongest and steadiest cultures in the NFL over the last couple decades this looks like it could potentially come crashing down soon as it may seem like Bateman could be traded as well as superstar quarterback Lamar Jackson. With the Ravens on a downward spiral this last season this could set the Ravens front office over the edge as they have a history or not tolerating players behavior.

Should the Packers move off Aaron Rodgers

What should the Green Bay Packers do with quarterback Aaron Rodgers? Rodgers came back from his darkness retreat last week and the rumors have been flying around since his return but Rodgers has made it clear he still wasn’t fully clear on what his future looks like whether that’s what the Packers or even playing football at all.

The four time MVP went on a podcast earlier this week and made multiple comments about the darkness retreat and his current state of mind stating “For everybody involved directly and indirectly, it’s best for a decision earlier,” Rodgers said on the Aubrey Marcus Podcast. “I feel really good about the conversations that are gonna be had, that have been had, with the important people in my life that help to orient me. But I’m not looking for somebody to tell me what the answer is. All the answers are right inside me, and I touched many of them — and definitely the feelings — on both sides during the darkness. I’m thankful for that time.

“There’s a finality to the decision. I don’t take it lightly. I don’t want to drag anybody around. Look, I’m answering questions about it because I got asked about it. I’m talking about it because it’s important to me. If you don’t like it and you think it’s drama, you think I’m being a diva or whatever, then just tune it out. That’s fine. But this is my life. It’s important to me, and I’ll make a decision soon enough and we’ll go down that road and be really excited about it.”

With Rodgers decision stuff unclear it’s been floating around that the Packers might move off of Aaron even if he wants to return to Green Bay but the Packers have made it clear that they will wait for Aaron to make his decision and go from there.

NFL releases and franchise tags

Tuesday was a very busy day for the NFL as we kicked off the NFL combine and other free agency activities. With teams starting to make moves on their respected roster we had a couple teams make big moves that could be season changing next season, let’s go through some of those changes thus far.

First off we had the Atlanta Falcons release starting quarterback Marcus Mariota who started many games for the Falcons last season. With the Falcons making it very clear that they are going to second year quarterback Desmond Ridder who showed some flashes late last  year. With Mariota now a free agent once again he’s expected to go back to a backup quarterback role on a team like he was on the Las Vegas Raiders.

The New York Giants have released veteran wide receiver Kenny Golladay, Golladay was a non factor for the Giants in the two seasons that Golladay was there. With the Giants taking a big swing on the veteran wideout it didn’t pan out as Golladay only had 600 receiving yards and one touchdown in his two seasons with New York.

Lastly we had the Tampa Bay Buccaneers release veteran all pro running back Leonard Fournette, Fournette was a huge contributor to Tampa Bay winning the Super Bowl two years ago as Fournette got the nickname “playoff Lenny” as Leonard had a spectacular postseason with the Buccaneers in 2021.

Commanders release QB Carson Wentz

The Washington Commanders released Carson Wentz on Monday afternoon after just one season. This is a somewhat surprising move as the Commanders don’t have a real plan at the quarterback position, but with Washington drafting quarterback Sam Howell late in last years draft he made some big plays in his short time starting.

The former number two overall pick in the 2016 draft by the Philadelphia Eagles, Wentz spent five seasons with the Eagles before getting traded to the Indianapolis Colts in which he played one season with the Colts and then was traded to the Commanders last offseason.

Carson Wentz is seen as a high upside player with a low floor and given week as most teams see him as a potential pro bowl player like he was in Philadelphia but ever since that 2017 season, Wentz hasn’t been the same and could never get back to being that borderline MVP player before getting injured late into the season. Some believe Wentz won’t get back to being a starter and is potentially out of the league after this Commanders stint has come to an end.

Jalen Ramsey top trade destinations

With pro corner Jalen Ramsey on the trade block for the second time in his career, he’ll be looking to join a new team in the coming future potentially. With the Los Angeles Rams seemingly looking to dump big salaries and gain draft compensation back they are looking in all areas to move off star players to rebuild their future. Let’s go through my top three trade destinations for Jalen Ramsey and why.

      Detroit Lions

The Lions are the number one named team right now for Ramsey to land as they Lions had a top five offense but a bottom three defense in the league last year, if the Lions can bring in Ramsey to bolster a very weak secondary and help this Lions defense this could be a very scary team to face next year.

        Miami Dolphins

The Miami Dolphins could make a win now move and go for Ramsey as they still have their quarterback on a rookie contract which in the NFL has been the biggest advantage for teams to get and win Super Bowls for the last couple decades. With the Dolphins having some older and more expensive players on this roster they could look to bring in Ramsey and go all in for a chance at a Super Bowl.

        Minnesota Vikings

Another team that could go all in is the Minnesota Vikings who have a bottom five pass defense in the league and could really use Jalen Ramsey’s services in the secondary, with the Vikings having some of their best players on rookie or team friendly contracts, they could look to make another big splash and make a push in a weak NFC conference.

Atlanta Hawks hire head coach Quin Snyder

The  Atlanta Hawks have hired a new head coach and it is former Utah Jazz coach Quin Snyder. Snyder spent many years in Utah as he led the Jazz to multiple playoff round wins and many postseason trips, Snyder’s head coaching resume with the Jazz is a 373-264 record over eight years.

With Quin Snyder becoming the new Hawks head coach for the foreseeable future, this Hawks team is looking to get back on track as they’ve had a very bumpy season and are in playoff contention out of the all star break.

Snyder is recognized as one of the league’s better head coaches as he led the Utah Jazz to the playoffs six of the eight seasons he was there, even though this Hawks team had been up and down over the last half decade, they’ll look to get back on track and make a strong playoff push this year.

This Hawks roster is one of the better rosters in the NBA as they have a multitude of all star caliber players like Trae Young, Dejonte Murray, Clint Capela, John Collins and many more. This roster has been successful in the past as they’ve made it to the conference championship just two seasons ago and will look to make it back this postseason.

Rams release LB Bobby Wagner

The Los Angeles Rams have announced they are releasing all pro linebacker Bobby Wagner ahead of free agency. One year ago the Rams signed Wagner to a three year $45 million dollar contract that would all another superstar player to this already stacked Rams defense but the Rams have now released Wagner and are looking ahead for the future.

With Wagner having a phenomenal season with the Rams last year it’s somewhat shocking that Los Angeles is just releasing Wagner without even trying to trade him to where the player wants to be, the Rams last year had one of the worst title defenses ever for a Super Bowl champion but with major injuries to their key players and the loss of some pro bowl players that’s what can happen in the NFL.

Bobby Wagner signed with the Rams to be in Super Bowl contention for the coming years but with the Rams looking dreadful for the next half decade it wasn’t far fetched that Los Angeles just released Bobby. With Wagner now being a free agent once again he’ll get his pick at a team that can contend for a Super Bowl and add on this his already impressive career as one of the best linebackers the NFL has ever seen.

Atlanta Hawks fire coach Nate McMillan

The Atlanta Hawks have officially fired head coach Nate McMillan who was a pretty good head coach during his tenure with the Hawks these last two seasons. With a record of 99-80 during his tenure as the head coach with the Hawks, McMillan wasn’t deserving of this firing.

With Nate McMillan leading the Hawks to the Eastern Conference finals in 2021, he’s been one of the better coaches in this league but it’s been widely reported that star point guard Trae Young didn’t get along with Nate McMillan and the two didn’t see eye to eye which eventually lead to the Hawks firing the veteran coach.

With McMillan coaching in this league for over eighteen seasons he’s been a proven head coach for many years and was doing a good job with this Hawks team overall in his two seasons as a head coach. With the Hawks missing the playoffs last year and are on pace to miss them again, McMillan the coaches relationship with the players wasn’t the only thing that had the Hawks make a move in the midst of the season.

Tennessee Titans release multiple players

The Tennessee Titans made some tough decisions today and cleared over thirty million dollars in cap space for next season. The Titans released some of their best players as they were twenty five million over the cap for next year and with that they had to cut some of their best players like left tackle Taylor Lewan, wide receiver Robert Woods and kicker Randy Bullock.

The Titans have been a great team for nearly a half decade but just could not get over the hump even with one of the better rosters in the NFL and a premier head coach in Mike Vrabel. With the Titans reportedly looking to move off of starting quarterback Ryan Tannehill, this Titans team could look very different next year as they are looking to retool the roster and build for the future.

With the Titans looking to make some splashy moves like trading for superstar quarterback Aaron Rodgers and making a deep Super Bowl run, that is definitely over as the team is cutting players and essentially starting over for the next couple years. With the Titans firing their general manager in the midst of the season last year this Titans team is going to be picking very high for the next half decade it seems like.
