NBA news around the league

Being in the midst of the NBA offseason this is a slow time for news in sports in general, but I’m looking into small stories to write everyday. These stories might not be the most exciting but here they are.

  • Steve Clifford returns back to Hornets for the second time as a head coach, with Warriors assistant head coach bailing on the Hornets after agreeing to a four year deal but since decided to return to the Warriors, Clifford will since then return to the Hornets.
  • A LeBron James trading card sells for $2.4 million dollars at auction, a one of three LeBron card with a logo patch sells for a record high.
  • Chicago Bulls GM reportedly already told Bulls guard Zach Lavine that they’ll offer Lavine the five year max extension.
  • The Lakers front office and Russell Westbrook have reportedly asked Westbrook to take a more defensive role next season for the Lakers.
  • The New York Knicks reportedly are making a very aggressive push for Mavs free agent Jalen Brunson.

Best landing spots for Kyrie Irving

In the last week Brooklyn Nets guard Kyrie Irving has been in the news just about everyday about trade rumors and what he’ll do if the Nets don’t offer him the 5 year $250 million dollar extension he’s asking for. Kyrie did put out a list of teams he’s likely to be traded to if the Nets don’t offer him the offer he’s seeking, i’ll be ranking those landing spots with a school grading system of A-F.

    Los Angeles Lakers B+

This would be the best fit for Kyrie in the fact that Irving is reunited with LeBron who has had the most success with Irving, now it’s not the best fit as the roster doesn’t need someone like Kyrie and putting Kyrie on that team with a first year head coach could be a trainwreck.

    Los Angeles Clippers B+

The Clippers could also be a good fit like the Lakers as Kyrie and Clippers head coach Ty Lue have already worked together back in the on the Cavs, Irving would be a good fit on this roster as the Clippers are missing a playmaker at the guard position.

    Miami Heat C-

This is where the fits get whacky with Irving and the teams he’s chosen, the Miami Heat are the exact opposite of what Kyrie should want in an organization, the Heat are a strict culture and expect no nonsense and does that sound like Kyrie to you?

    New York Knicks C+

I Don’t see why Kyrie wants to go to the Knicks. Irving essentially told Kevin Durant he’d rather play on the Nets than the Knicks when they first signed in Brooklyn in 2019, now Knicks fans would love Kyrie in Madison Square Garden but what’s the cost for getting Kyrie?

    Dallas Mavericks D

This is by far the worst fit for all the teams Kyrie mentioned, if i was the Mavericks I would look away immediately, Irving isn’t what the Mavericks need, you already have Luka Doncic who has the ball in his hands as it is and Kyrie who’s gonna need the ball as well and your building something special in Dallas why would you ruin it with Kyrie.

    Philadelphia 76ers C-

This could be a interesting fit but then you’re essentially telling James Harden to go somewhere else, James wanted out of Brooklyn because of Kyrie so if the 76ers got Irving Harden would bolt outta Phili, now this fit on the court could be a good one with Irving and Joel Embiid though.

NBA draft night trades and rumors

With the NBA having one of its biggest nights of the year with the draft many moves have been made in the last 24 hours. We’ll also be ranking those moves with the common A-F grading system.

    Detroit Pistons B+

The reasoning behind giving the Pistons a B+ as many of the media liked the Pistons moves in the draft but the return Detirot got for Jerami Grant simply wasn’t enough.

    Orlando Magic A

The Magic didn’t do much in the draft for moves but taking Paolo Banchero was a good move by Orlando, many Magic fans wanted Chet but his weight is concerning to some front offices.

    Oklahoma City Thunder A

Many thought Chet Holmgran was a lock for the #1 pick but with Paolo shooting up the draft boards to the #1 spot OKC had no choice to take Chet, as Holmgram’s body isn’t ready for the NBA it’s no rush as Oklahoma has plenty of draft picks in the future.

    Los Angeles Lakers C+

For what the Lakers had for picks i think they did great, they drafted a rookie in the second round who could be helpful for them and overshadowing that is how the Lakers signed Shareef O’ Niel and Scottie Pippen Jr. to two-way contracts.

    Philadelphia 76ers B+

Now a A grade is for the teams who knock it out of the park but the 76ers did very close to that, saving $10 million in cap space by trading guard Danny Green and the No. 23 pick to the Memphis Grizzlies for De’Anthony Melton.

    New York Knicks D

The New York Knicks didn’t shock anyone by making another bad move on draft night, trading away the No.11 pick with still many talented players left in the draft for essentially to clear $18 million dollars in cap space and 3 future draft picks but all all protected.
