Jalen Hurts signs massive extension

Philadelphia Eagles superstar Jalen Hurts has agreed to a massive five year contract extension with the Eagles, the five year deal is worth up to $251 million with $179 million dollars guaranteed and $110 million due at signing. This now makes Hurts the highest paid player in the NFL with an average salary of $51 million per season.

Obviously this is a massive deal for both Hurts and the Eagles organization, Hurts will be the highest paid player for a couple months before Joe Burrow, Justin Herbert and Lamar Jackson will reset the market. With Jalen having a breakout season last year it wasn’t a surprise he was getting a massive contract after he led the Eagles to the Super Bowl.

Hurts finished second in MVP voting after he missed a few games late in the season, Hurts led the Eagles to an undefeated record for the first three months of the season until they lost to the Washington Commanders in a weekday game on prime time.

Jalen was drafted in the second round of the 2020 NFL draft which was a huge surprise after the Eagles paid quarterback Carson Wentz who led them to a Super Bowl in 2017 and also finished in the top 3 of MVP voting but since then Hurts has been the leader of Philadelphia and haven’t looked back since.

Commanders owner Dan Snyder sells team for $6 billion

The Washington Commanders have officially sold and after twenty years the Commanders will have a new owner, a group of investors that’s headed by Philadelphia 76ers owner Josh Harris has paid a pretty penny for the sinking franchise. The Commanders sell for a record bid of $6.05 billion dollars which is the most for a major league franchise ever in the history of sports.

Snyder bought the Washington Redskins in 1999 for $750 million dollars and will now make eight times that as he is now a very rich man. Snyder’s tenure as the Commanders owner was disastrous as the franchise only won two playoff games in the span of his ownership tenure which is the second lowest in the NFL today.

After many accusations and lawsuits it was finally time for Dan Snyder to sell the team as this once blue blood franchise was rotting before our very eyes, before Snyder bought the Commanders this franchise was once considered a elite organization and one to be proud of to play if you were a player but over these last twenty five years it has been nothing short of a disaster.

NFL trades and signings

With the NFL offseason already underway we are starting to gear up for the 2023 NFL draft and with teams looking into top prospects and looking to trade up we are starting to see players get traded and request trades from teams. Let’s go through the two big topics on Tuesday that broke.

The biggest topic of the day is Tampa Bay Buccaneers Middle Linebacker Devin White has officially requested a trade from the Buccaneers as he is heading into his fifth season in the league and is reportedly looking for a new contract. With Tampa being very crunched on cap space for the next few years it would be no surprise that Devin White will get traded, with the Bucs needing to move off some players and free cap space this would be a smart move to make.

Another trade today was Detroit Lions cornerback Jeff Okudah has been traded to the Atlanta Falcons for a 2023 fifth round pick. Okudah was a top pick in the draft just a few years ago but has massively underperformed considering his draft position, with Okudah heading into the final year of his rookie contract this was a smart move for both teams as the Lions get more draft capital and the Falcons take a flier on a diamond in the rough player.

Odell Beckham Jr signs with Ravens

NFL star receiver Odell Beckham Jr has signed a one year deal with the Baltimore Ravens, this deal is a one year deal worth up to $18 million and $15 million fully guaranteed. With this contract being very front loaded it gives OBJ the security he wants and the Ravens the star number one receiver they have been looking for.

With OBJ coming off an injury year he is looking to get back on the field as he missed the entire 2022-2023 NFL season. After Odell won a Super Bowl with the Los Angeles Rams two seasons ago he was going to be a highly sought-after free agent but with Odell blowing out his knee in the Super Bowl his NFL future was in big jeopardy.

Even though this signing seems like a risky one for Baltimore, Odell held a workout for many teams during the NFL combine that showed teams how well OBJ can still play and be a number one receiver on many teams. With the Ravens striking out on many skill position players in the past they finally land a big name player that quarterback Lamar Jackson can play with.

Overall this is a win win for both Odell Beckham Jr and the Ravens as Odell gets the guaranteed money he wanted and the Ravens get the superstar receiver they have been desperately looking for, for the last couple years.

Jeffery Simmons signs blockbuster deal with Titans

The all pro defensive lineman is staying in Nashville, Tennessee Titans superstar Jeffery Simmons has re-signed with the Titans on a four year $94 million dollar extension with $66 million fully guaranteed and $24 million at signing. With the Titans shopping players left and right this offseason it’s to a somewhat surprise that the Titans superstar is staying with the organization.

Simmons has been the last few seasons with the Titans on a very cheap rookie contract as he was selected number nineteen overall by Tennessee in the 2019 draft, Simmons slipped to the nineteenth pick as he tore his ACL training for the NFL draft, Simmons was originally supposed to be a top ten pick but with the significant injury this led the Titans to be able to snag the all pro defensive end later in the draft.

With the new  contract Simmons will now rank second in defensive tackles at $23.5 million per year only behind multi time defensive player of the year Aaron Donald. In the past two seasons Simmons has racked up 16 sacks, 30 quarterback hits, 67 tackles, 21 tackles for loss, 13 passes defended and 115 total pressures, per PFF.

Simmons has been the anchor of this great defense for the last couple years in Tennessee and will be under contract for the next half decade.

NFL draft reports and leaks thus far

With the 2023 NFL draft less than a month away we are starting to see lots of reports and leaks come out about teams that want to take specific players and trade up or trade down. So far we’ve only had one trade which was the Carolina Panthers trading for the number one overall pick back in March, so far the only team that may want to trade up is the Las Vegas Raiders. Let’s go through some of the reports that have come out in the last week.

The first report we have is the New England Patriots wanting to draft a “blue chip” running back like Bijaan Robinson even though the Patriots have many capable running backs. This is surprising considering the Patriots are in desperate need of wide receivers and have a surplus of backs.

One of the other reports is the Houston Texans are “very high” on quarterback Bryce Young and want to draft him number two overall, obviously the Panthers are taking a quarterback at number one but with Carolina reportedly sold on QB C.j Stroud it’s likely that Bryce Young will be going number two to the Texans.

Lastly defensive tackle Jalen Carter is not meeting with teams outside of the top ten as Carter believes he is still a top prospect even with all of the off the field issues that happened earlier this year. One team that is connected to Carter is the Chicago Bears who have already met with Carter earlier this week.

New England Patriots QB drama

The New England Patriots are once again in the news as they made headlines on Tuesday afternoon with multiple reports coming out that Patriots head coach Bill Belichick has tried to shop starting quarterback Mac Jones this offseason, the reported teams  that the Patriots have reached out to is the Washington Commanders, Las Vegas Raiders, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Houston Texans.

Last week Patriots owner Robert Kraft said that rapper Meek Mill reached out to Kraft stating Lamar Jackson was interested in joining the Pats but Kraft said “that’s Bill’s decision”.

With a very rocky offense last year there was multiple reports and leaks that quarterback Mac Jones and head coach Bill Belichick we’re not getting along and have a different opinion on the offense, of course this is after Belichick didn’t hire a offensive coordinator for the offense last year and stuck a special teams and defensive coordinator in that role.

With Jackson having next to no market the Patriots are the top team to sign Lamar and trade their two first round picks to get him. This would be a great fit for New England as they lack offensive weapons and Lamar can be just that.

NFL free agency news and updates this week

With the NFL having a slow free agency week we didn’t see a whole lot of signings and or trades, with still lots of big name players available in the coming weeks we will have further news about that when it breaks. Let’s go through some of the signings throughout the last week of march.

First off the biggest signing of the week is the Atlanta Falcons have signed defensive end Calais Campbell, Campbell is in the last years of his career as he has played for a couple teams like the Jacksonville Jaguars, Baltimore Ravens and now the Atlanta Falcons, this deal is a one year $7 million dollar deal with incentives.

Next up we have the Buffalo Bills signing safety Taylor Rapp, Rapp is  a solid backup player and now a loaded secondary for the Bills. Rapp has spent his first years in the league with the Los Angeles Rams where he won a Super Bowl two seasons ago and will now join another loaded team.

Lastly we have the Pittsburgh Steelers signing former pro bowl safety Keanu Neal, Neal has been around the league with a couple teams that include the Atlanta Falcons where he was a pro bowler, the Dallas Cowboys, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and now the Pittsburgh Steelers in which he’ll be playing alongside all pro safety Minkah Fitzpatrick. This is a two year deal for Neal and will hopefully revive his playing career as he’s had a slew of injuries.

Lamar Jackson speaks out on injury history

2020 NFL MVP Lamar Jackson has spoken out on twitter once again as this time it pertained to his injury history over the last couple seasons. Lamar went to twitter as he tweeted out “I don’t remember me sitting out on my guys week 1 vs jets To week 12 vs Broncos, How come all of a sudden I sit out because of money in which I could’ve got hurt at anytime within that time frame 🤔 When we know the Super Bowl been on my mind since April 2018.”

Lamar has spoken out many times this week on twitter about people concerns like injuries, contact wants and play on the field, even the Atlanta Falcons owner Auther Blank has come out earlier this week and spoke out as to why the Falcons aren’t pursuing Jackson and why they organization did pursue Deshuan Watson last offseason.

Jackson did also tweet out on Wednesday that “Let’s get real. I rather have a 100% PCL than go out there and play horrible forcing myself to put my guys in a bad situation now that’s selfish to me,”. This doesn’t look good for Lamar as teams seem to be dropping out every week and Lamar now has a smaller market than last week.

Packers QB updated QB situation

The Green Bay Packers have been in the news ever since they reportedly wanted to move off of superstar quarterback Aaron Rodgers, with the Packers making it very clear that they intend to move off of the four time MVP.

With Packers head coach Matt LaFleur talking to the press about future starting quarterback Jordan Love, LaFluer talked about the Packers QB situation and stated “Rodgers’ impending trade is what it is, and at the same time, we’re excited about Jordan and how he’s been able to progress as a quarterback, how he’s matured as a man,” Packers coach Matt LaFleur said Tuesday at the Annual League Meeting in Phoenix. “It’s going to be a different role for him, certainly, and I think we all have to kind of temper our expectations for him. It’s different when you’re going into a game versus when you’re starting a game. It’s going to be a process, but it’s gonna be exciting for him, for us.

“I don’t think any quarterback can truly do it on their own in this league. So it’s going to be everybody rallying around him and trying to be at the best of their ability so that he can go out there and perform as good as he possibly can.”

With Love going into his fourth year he is officially getting his shot at the starting spot on the Packers as it was reported after the season that if Green Bay brought back Rodgers for another year Jordan Love would have requested a trade as he wanted to start for a organization and prove his worth.
