The Kansas City Chiefs and the Los Angeles Chargers playing on Thursday night football is always a great game to watch as these two teams have always had close games, especially since QB’s Patrick Mahomes and Justin Herbert arrived to their respective teams. With the Kansas City Chiefs edging out the Chargers 27-24 in last night’s win, let’s look at what went right for the Chiefs and what went wrong for the Chargers.

    Starting off with the Chargers some key things that swung this game in the wrong direction for them is the offensive line deteriorating with injuries throughout this game, with center Corey Linsley and right tackle Trey Pipkins going down it turned into a nightmare for the Chargers. The Chargers had good protection all night until those two went down, then that’s were Justin Herbet started to have problems, Herbert had a rough second half with getting hit eight times and suffering a rib injury from a hit of a Kansas City Chiefs defensive lineman, Herbert seemed to be in pain but fought through it and came back to score a touchdown late in the game. 

On a bright note Chargers wide receiver Mike Williams stepped up and had a monstrous game with eight catches for 113 yards and a touchdown, With Keenan Allen out this is what you want to see from your number two receiver.

    For the Chiefs this was a great win for them in the sense that the Chargers are considered to be one of the better teams in the NFL and mostly viewed as a top super bowl contender this year. Even with Tyreek Hill being gone the Chiefs look great with their new additions at key spots on this team, especially with some rookies that were drafted this year including seventh round DB Jaylen Watson had a 99 yard pick six in the fourth quarter. 

Even though Patrick Mahomes had a somewhat quiet game he still appreciated the win calling it “an ugly win” but that’s to come when you play some of the best teams in the league. Mahomes had a steller game in week one against the Arizona Cardinals throwing five touchdown passes and even though he didn’t have that many last night it was still a great win.

The Chiefs are in a great spot to start off the season with this hot 2-0 start in the stacked AFC West, let’s see how far the Chiefs can take this winning streak going with a tough schedule coming up but they now have ten days of rest in between week 2 and week 3.

With the NFL wrapping up week 1 of the regular season we’ve already seen many players unfortunately get injured, let’s go through all the notable injuries for teams.

Monday night was the biggest game of the week as former Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson faced his old team. Russell was traded to the Broncos this offseason. 

    In Wilson’s first game as a Denver Bronco played well, Wilson completed 29 of 42 throws and a touchdown. As for Denver’s rookie head coach Nathaniel Hackett he had a very rough first game as a head coach. The Broncos offense looked like a mess creating multiple mistakes including committing twelve penalties, hurrying the offensive line which then created a lost fumble at the goal line, as Denver was at the goal line three different times last night the result in those three goal lines were two fumbles and a field goal, safe to say Denver won’t be this poorly coached next week.

    Jerry Juedy also showed out, Jeudy finished with one of his best games as he caught four passes for 102 yards and a touchdown. Juedy is finally showing why he was a first round pick for Denver a few years back and this is his year to breakout. One other takeaway for Denver is why didn’t Nathaniel Hackett give Javonte Williams more carries? Williams was utilized more in the passing game last night finishing with 11 receptions for 65 yards but only 7 calories for43 yards which is an average of 6.1 yards per carry.  

    As for the Seahawks they looked poised in the first half as Seahawks QB Geno Smith completed 17 of 18 throws and two touchdowns and finished the game with 23 for 28 on throws but the offense looked staggered in the second half as they didn’t score at all. 

The other takeaway from this game for Seattle is the injury to star safety Jamal Adams who, according to Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll said Adams knee injury was “serious”. Adams will undergo MRI testing but there has been no news as of yet.

Every NFL Sunday is very hectic with the amount of games that goes on, with over ten plus games being on every Sunday each window of games always has an interesting topic to discuss about the game, whether that’s from the 1’ o’clock, 4’ o’clock or Sunday night games. With week one pretty much over let’s go through my biggest takeaway from each window of yesterday’s games.

    Patriots vs Dolphins

    Starting off with the 1’o’clock game the Patriots vs Dolphins game was definitely interesting for the fact that the Pats offense looked clunky and slow as predicted, they only scored 7 points in this ballgame and also had three turnovers which cost them big time. For the Dolphins if it wasn’t for New England having multiple turnovers Miami could have easily lost this game. Tyreek Hill also started to look frustrated with QB Tua Tagovailoa missing Hill on multiple wide open deep routes and easy mid level throws. Miami wins 20-7.

    Vikings vs Packers

    Just like week one of last year the Green Bay Packers looked awful, with Green Bay’s offense also looking clunky without multiple star offensive lineman and no Davante Adams who left for the Raiders this offseason. Green Bay had a shot to win this game as rookie receiver Christian Watson dropped a touchdown pass and the Packers got stuffed on 4th and goal on the 1 yard line. As for the Vikings, rookie head coach Kevin O’Connell looked excellent in his debut, with this new offensive scheme Justin Jefferson was wide open on multiple deep routes, the Vikings as predicted are looking like an excellent team. Vikings win 23-7.

    Buccaneers vs Cowboys

The Dallas Cowboys are circling the drain as we know it, with the team losing QB Dak Prescott for multiple weeks due to a hand injury and the team already looking lost on offense this could potentially be a disastrous year for the Cowboys. Dallas lost many pieces this offseason on both sides of the ball and it showed, losing WR’s Amari Cooper and Cedrick Wilson, RT La’el Collins and LG Connor Williams this offense is already off to a very slow start with only scoring 3 points last night. For Tampa there’s not much to takeaway other than the offensive line somewhat held up against Dallas only allowing two sacks. The Bucs win 19-3.

Las Vegas Raiders superstar tight end Darren Waller has agreed to a massive extension with the club, the details of the contract is a 3 year deal worth $51 million and including $19.25 million fully guaranteed at signing. The Raiders lock up yet another offensive piece with Waller after signing Davante Adams, Hunter Renfrow and Derek Carr to extensions this offseason, Even with the Raiders having many likable pieces on every side of the ball many fans and media members are still picking the Raiders to finish last in the AFC West.  

    Waller was named to the pro bowl in 2020 after having a monster season finishing with over 100 receptions for north of 1,100 yards, Waller did have a down season due to injuries but he is looking to have a major comeback season with the Raiders.

    Indianapolis Colts superstar Quenton Nelson inks a massive extension with the club after yet another terrific season with the club. Nelson’s deal is a four year deal worth $80 million including $60 million in guarantees. This contract makes Nelson the highest paid guard in the NFL. The superstar left guard is set to make $13.75 million on his fifth year option before the contract sets in next season. 

Nelson was the number 6 overall pick in the 2018 draft and has made the pro bowl in each of his years and has also made an all-pro team in three of his four years in the NFL. Nelson has also been a model of consistency with playing 61 of the possible 65 games in his career, Nelson has also only allowed four sacks in his career which is phenomenal for a guard in this league. Quenton is now under contract for the Colts through the 2026 season.

Baltimore Ravens superstar quarterback Lamar Jackson is unable to agree on a contract extension with the club ahead of the 2022 NFL season. The 2020 NFL MVP gave the Ravens a contract extension deadline ahead of this upcoming season which was friday afternoon, Lamar is betting on himself with playing under the fifth year option worth $23 million dollars and setting to become a free agent next offseason unless either the team franchise tag or agrees with an extension with Lamar. 

    It’s been reported that Lamar and the Ravens have had trouble seeing eye to eye on a contract extension but more so the terms of the contract, it’s been said that Lamar is looking for a Deshaun Watson type of contract where it’s a fully guaranteed deal worth at least $230 million over five years or a average of $46 million a year, but with the quarterback market being set with newly signed QB’s like Kyler Murray and Russell Wilson signing massive contracts but only 60-70 percent of the contract being guaranteed, Lamar is looking for a next to unprecedented type of deal and the Ravens are not looking like their going to cave. 

    With Ravens general manager making a statement on the disagreement on the contract extension he said “We greatly appreciate how he has handled this process and we are excited about our team with Lamar leading the way. We will continue to work towards a long-term contract after the season, but for now we are looking forward to a successful 2022 campaign.” 

Looks like Lamar and the Ravens will have another meeting next offseason to discuss an extension once again.

With the NFL kicking off on Thursday night with the Los Angeles Rams hosting the Buffalo Bills let’s look at my biggest takeaways from the Bills dominant 31-10 win over the Rams. These two teams and what they need to improve on for the upcoming weeks and this season. 

    For the Los Angeles Rams they need to work on a lot not only for the fact they got blown out in the first game of the season but they just didn’t play well overall. One of my biggest concerns for the Rams is that the offensive line deteriorated very quickly and allowed Matthew Stafford to get sacked several times, this is mostly due to the fact of the lack of running game and all pro left tackle Andrew Witworth retiring this offseason. Speaking of the running game, Cam Akers for some reason only got three carries for the whole game while backup RB Darrell Henderson got the majority of snaps this game. 

    My last takeaway frm this game from the Rams perspective is how Jalen Ramsey is starting to show flashes of slowing down. Ramsey these last few games going back to last season is giving up big play touchdowns and allowing perfect to near perfect passer rating in these games, with giving up a late game touchdown to Mike Evans in the divisional round of the playoffs to giving up a seventy five yard touchdown in the super bowl Ramsey last night somehow looked even worse allowing a perfect 158.3 passer rating on six catches on seven targets for 124 yards and a touchdown. 

    For the Buffalo Bills they don’t have alot of needs to fix other than the running back continues to be non-existent even with multiple running backs on the roster that are good starters for most teams. Even though the Bills out rushed the Rams last night it still wasn’t impressive as quarterback Josh Allen is once again the leading rusher for this game, Allen rushed for 56 yards on ten carries with a sweet touchdown run that included “dunking” on Rams superstar linebacker Bobby Wagner. 

If Buffalo wants Josh Allen to remain at this type of play they must improve on the running game and have Allen take less hits. Buffalo has multiple good running backs in Devin Singletary, Zack Moss and rookie James Cook.   

Buffalo now improves to 1-0 on the season as the Rams fall to 0-1 in their home opener.

Every year the NFL has some surprising award winners and standout teams. Let’s quickly go through each award and my super bowl prediction for this upcoming NFL season. 

Most Valuable Player- Patrick Mahomes

With the narrative around Tyreek Hill being traded and Mahomes in that division will give him the narrative boost over other players in the conversation. 

Defensive Player Of The Year- Micah Parsons

Micah Parsons was arguably a top five defensive player last year in just his rookie year, with going into year number two and Parsons being such a versatile player he’ll get the extra bump he needs over other players. 

Offensive Player Of The Year- Tyreek Hill

With Tyreek Hill departing to Miami he can finally say “I did it without Mahomes” and that will give him the bump, plus the Dolphins will utilize him more like Deebo Samuel of the 49ers with running the ball and giving Hill bubble screen plays. 

Comeback Player Of The Year- Baker Mayfield 

With Baker being one of the center stories of this offseason he’ll have a chance to do big things in Carolina and resurrect his image in Carolina this season with a potential great season. 

Offensive Rookie Of The Year- Romeo Doubs

With Romeo Doubs getting high praise from Packers Qbs Doubs is looking like the number two receiver on Green Bay as of now, and with showing flashes of stardom Doubs could be a name to look for. 

Defensive Rookie Of The Year- Kayvon Thibodeaux

Kayvon Thibodeaux could put up monster numbers next to other good pass rushers on the Giants like Leonard Williams and others. Thibodeaux is also a big name rookie which could help him in the DROY race. 

Coach Of The Year- Frank Reich 

    With how the year ended for the Colts last year it could be a possibility that Colts head coach Frank Reich could take this award home. With a newly upgraded QB in Matt Ryan and a wonky division in the AFC South the Colts could be a top two seed in the AFC. 

Super Bowl Prediction-  Buffalo Bills vs San Francisco 49ers

With the NFL having so much adversity and new teams being in and out of the playoffs it looks like the clear favorite in the AFC is the Buffalo Bills with key additions like Von Miller and more. My prediction for the 49ers solely relies on if Trey Lance can play and I think he’ll flourish in this system with head coach Kyle Shanahan.

With the NFL leaning more towards the offense, let’s look at the NFC’s top 3 trios for skill position players which includes running backs, wide receivers and tight ends. With the NFC looking more and more packed with great teams by the day this will be a very tough list to make and especially leaving out some great trios who you’d think would have made the list a year ago. 

1. Minnesota Vikings

The Minnesota Vikings are widely considered to be a top three team at the skill position, with Minnesota being so stacked on the offensive end it was no surprise that the Vikings are number one in the NFC. Starting with the wide receivers, Minnesota has arguably a top three wide receiver room in the NFC with superstar Justin Jefferson, Adam Thielan and newly traded for Jalen Reagor. Now at the running back position the Vikings have a very nice duo of Dalvin Cook who’s top ten at his position and Alexander Mattison who’s a great backup and could start for certain teams. At the tight end position you have Irv Smith Jr who is also a very young, high potential player at his position and is very capable of making a few pro bowls in his career. 

2. San Francisco 49ers 

The 49ers are a very close number two team in terms of skill position players in the NFC with superstar receiver Deebo Samuel who also plays running back, Brandon Aiyuk who reportedly had a phenomenal training camp and newly drafted rookie Danny gray. The 49ers also have a top three tight end in the league in George Kittle and lastly the running back position in which the 49ers always seem to have good depth at the position in which they have Elijah Mitchell, Kyle Juszczyk and Jeff Wilson Jr.  

3. Los Angeles Rams

This was a tough decision but you had to go with the Los Angeles Rams due to the fact that they have such great wide receiver depth with all pro Cooper Kupp, Allen Robinson ll, Van Jefferson and newly drafted rookie Lance McCutcheon. The Rams also have great depth at the running back position in Cam Akers and backup Darrell Henderson Jr, lastly the tight end position which is the weak link of this trio but Tyler Higbee is still capable of being a pro bowler any year and has really come into his own as of last year.

With the NFL leaning more towards the offense, let’s look at the AFC’s top 3 trios for skill position players which includes running backs, wide receivers and tight ends. With the AFC looking more and more packed with great teams by the day this will be a very tough list to make and especially leaving out some great trios who you’d think would have made the list a year ago. 

1. Las Vegas Raiders

The Las Vegas Raiders have to be number one for the fact that if you look at their trio it’s gotta even be top three in the whole league, let alone the AFC. When you look at the Raiders receivers you have an excellent duo in Davante Adams and Hunter Renfrow, for the tight end position you have Darren Waller who’s considered to be a top four to five tight end and Josh Jacobs who can be a pro bowl running back on any given year in this league.  

2. Cincinnati Bengals

The Cinninati bengals definitely have a top three wide receiver room in this league with Jamaar Chase, Tee Higgins and Tyler Boyd, at the tight end position the Bengals are a little weak with Hayden Hurst but he’s still capable of a pro bowl year on any team and running back you have a great all pro back in Joe Mixon who is one of the top players at his position year in and year out. 

3. Miami Dolphins 

The Miami Dolphins have quickly pivoted to offense this year and they’ve definitely earned the number three spot in the AFC for skill position trios. With Miami acquiring all pro receiver Tyreek Hill this offseason to pair with Jaylen Waddle and Cedrick Wilson at the receiver position, you also have Mike Gesicki who’s a top ten player at his position and great depth at the running back position in Myles Gaskin, Chase Edmonds and Raheem Mostert.
